To Weave
As you may have seen in Arianna’s newsletter or on my IG, we are carrying her and Miriam Parkman’s exciting book, To Weave, at the store I work for, Handknit Yarn Studio. If you live in Canada, please consider purchasing a copy from Handknit — we’re a small business and we’d love to help you get a copy of it. Arianna and Miriam are colour wizards and I am excited to soak in the exciting projects in this book.
We expect to have To Weave in store and shipping out mid-January — it officially comes out December 31st here in Canada, so we can’t order it before then :)
Free Pattern At Gist Yarn
If you have an empty loom, my free rigid heddle/2 shaft Simple Woven Coasters project is now available at Gist — who will also be stocking To Weave (for those of you who are shopping in the USA).
This pattern (well, it’s hardly a pattern!!) is E-A-S-Y and fast and you probably have enough yarn lying around to complete it in an afternoon. It goes along with my Last Minute Gift Ideas for Weavers post, in which you can find some simple instructions for making twisted cords, tassels, and a few quick gift weaves.
I was very grateful that Arianna was amenable to sharing her Holiday Garland weaving pattern as a single PDF for this article, because it is the perfect last minute weave idea. I’ve always wanted to make these garlands for gifting and decorating and I am planning on making some next week now the the loom is empty again. You can purchase a copy for yourself here or by clicking the image below.
Your Weaves
As you know if you’ve ever bought a weaving pattern from me, I try to write a personal thank you every time I have a sale — because I am really, truly grateful to everyone that supports me by supporting my creative work.
Years ago I thought nobody would ever want to buy a draft when there are loads of old books, monthly magazines, and free ones floating all over the internet. I am very happy to be wrong in this, and I am thrilled every time you send along pictures of things you’ve woven from my drafts. Here are three recent projects that have been shared with me:
Julia wove my baby blanket pattern from VÄVMAGASINET 3/2020 for her grandson in the loveliest blues.
Sivia recently sent me a picture of these three bread bags pinned and ready to be sewn together. The stripes and colour palette are all perfect.
And Martina got to work very quickly after my November newsletter. I love the yellow warp for the X and O Coasters!
I’m looking forward to sharing more from my loom and studio in 2022. Happy holidays,
amanda
